Men’s Hockey Games Rescheduled

Weather played havoc with the Huskies travel plans to Vancouver for their games against Trinity the weekend of January 12/13. Extreme cold in the prairies led to the cancellation of their flight through Calgary on the way to Vancouver on Thursday January 11th. WestJet rebooked the team to fly out of Calgary to Vancouver on Friday, January 12th, but the continued cold led to the cancellation of that flight as well.

Ultimately the team commandeered the bus from the Huskies volleyball teams (who were in Calgary for the weekend) and drove home on Saturday after 2 nights in the hotel. This forced a rescheduling of the two games against Trinity. After the Dogs play Mount Royal on February 2/3, they will fly to Vancouver on Sunday, February 4th. Game 1 against Trinity will be played at 2:00 p.m. PST on Monday February 5th, and Game 2 will be played at 9:00 a.m. PST on Tuesday. February 6th (that is not a typo – start time is in the “a.m.”!!!!).

Four road games in five days will be a grind, but cancelling the Trinity games was not really an option. “Those points are really important to us” noted Huskies’ coach Brandin Cote. “With the standings being so tight at the top, we could still finish in first place overall, so the games need to be played.” After the Trinity matches, the Dogs will then return to Merlis Belsher Place to finish out their regular season on February 9/10 against the Bisons. This will be the end of a 6-game run in 9 days. Needless to say, rust will not be an issue for the team once the playoffs start!!!
